Community Simulation Event

Thursday, May 30

10 am - 1 pm

In partnership with Unite DFW, will provide a glimpse of the emotional, financial, & social struggles that low-income families face. Folks who join may also experience higher levels of empathy. This event is FREE of charge. There will be a chance to network towards the end. Snacks will be provided.

We are looking for volunteers to help facilitate the event, folks who can act as teachers, police officers, grocery store owners, etc. Please let us know if interested by registering!

JOb readiness Series

The Job Readiness Series will equip you with the tools you need to find and secure a job! The series will cover: resume building, job search job interview skills, workplace etiquette, and more! Also, it’s a FREE series!

Project Transformation: summer day camp

Project Transformation will host their FREE summer day camp at Owenwood, starting in June! This program is open to elementary and middle-school aged students. Students will have one-on-one time with volunteers to work on literacy levels, partake in social emotional learning exercises, & all while having loads of fun! Young Musicians Program

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra offers an amazing, and FREE program called Young Musicians, open to 1st-5th graders. The goal of this after-school program is for students to learn the fundamentals of playing an instrument and how to read music. Students will prepare for a live performance towards the end of the program where family is invited!

Aspire offers in-person and virtual ESL classes, Early Childhood Education, workforce training, and more! By focusing on quality education, students will leave class feeling empowered.

Food Distribution

Every last saturday of the month from 9:00am - 11:00am

Our community is living in a food desert and we strive at helping and advocating the need for fresh foods for our families! Owenwood’s monthly food distribution gives out over fifteen thousand pounds of food with the help of community volunteers. No registration or ID is required.

Diapers Etc.

Every last Saturday of the month

Diapers Etc. exists to provide baby, youth, & adult diapers, feminine hygiene products, and other important goods not covered by government programs or other service providers. On distribution days, volunteers from the community come together to give out over ten thousand diapers to our neighbors, making connections and friends along the way. No registration or ID is required.

Community Gardening

Every Tuesday at 9:30 AM

Our community garden is a place to make new friendships, get dirty and learn new skills! No gardening skills or knowledge is necessary to get involved! We have expert neighbors leading the charge, and as a group, we share the vision, work schedules, and harvest. We want our neighbors to see themselves when they look at our community garden and urban farm. Click the button below to get involved!

Senior art class

Join us in the fun of creating some amazing art pieces to display in your home or to give away!

Classes are free of charge.

Acrylic classes will resume April 25 - May 16, every Thursday morning.

Senior Chair Yoga

Come join our first and our largest senior program, a relaxing and engaging chair yoga class with nearly 50 of your neighbors! Classes are free, and are a great way to get exercise, make a new friend, and learn more about what’s going on with the senior community at Owenwood.

Our urban farm partner GROW North Texas hosts Fresh Stop Farm Stands Friday & Saturday mornings at Owenwood. They have organic, fresh seasonal produce grown on site ready for purchase! They also distribute food vouchers for WIC recipients who qualify to use at FMNP locations. Come see and indulge in what we’ve been growing!
